 * _Note: I am **not **referring to lag while typing (especially with long-ish posts),
which is a known and persisting issue._
 * I have noticed that the Gutenberg post editor takes an inordinate amount of time
to load – well above 20 seconds. A quick examination revealed this happens because
it’s fetching 10+ MB worth of scripts and stylesheets (there’s an interesting
discussion there, beyond the scope of the present message). In other words, loading
the editor, going back to the dashboard, and coming back to the editor is _much_
   faster (3-4 seconds).
 * My .htaccess is configured to cache scripts and css for two weeks, but this isn’t
respected. I don’t know what’s going on under the hood of Gutenberg (and I’m
not sure I want to know, either 😁)
 * WordPress version 6.4.2, PHP 8.3. I’m not using any plugins except Yoast (up
to date), and the site utilizes a custom theme I’ve designed myself. The frontend
is lightning-fast (96-99 performance on PageSpeed) and the dashboard otherwise
quite OK. It’s the Gutenberg editor that causes issues.
 * My questions:
    1. Is there any known github bug/discussion on the topic I could follow?
    2. Are scripts/stylesheets on Gutenberg not deferred? It feels weird the editor
uses render-blocking scripts for 20+ seconds.
    3. Any other info on the topic, welcome!
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fpost-editor-initial-load-slow-without-cache%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * I did search github (and wordpress.org), but most issues refer to the editor
being slow during usage (as I mentioned in my original post). Issue #51608 (which
I also found earlier) is about the site editor, not the post editor.
 * Anyway, most other responses (e.g. on the Bing search you suggested…) offer the
same generic non-solutions (like “use classic editor”).
 * I’ll mark this as resolved, because I realize I can’t find any answers. There
are 583 things going wrong with WordPress, and this is one of them. I guess I
   just have to accept it.
 * Still, thanks for the effort.

 * 20+ seconds is definitely excessive, it should of course take a fraction of that.
 * This problem may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to deactivate
all plugins and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-Three theme. If the problem
goes away, re-activate them one by one to identify the source of the problem.
 * If you can install plugins, install [Health Check](https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/).
On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to deactivate all plugins
and change the theme for you while you’re still logged in **without affecting
   normal visitors to your site**.
 * @rokmeglic Folks are fully capable of searching Bing, Google, GitHub, Trac, etc,
themselves. Please refrane from linking to search results like that and just
give them the specific links you want them to look at (if you have any to offer).
