Post format and text effect template
-
Hello, I’m getting to know your theme and I have two questions:
1- I need to use the video feature in some articles, that is: replace the featured image with a video. But I couldn’t do that with Blocksy and I also didn’t find WP’s default “post format” options, which is present in other themes. How to solve?
2) In the “Persona” template, a different effect appears in the titles of the pages and blog, (but it does not appear in the homepage). How to edit?

Thank you very much!

In addition, in the case of the text, I did not identify how or where to edit it. (Elementor use)
Hello @monikbr
Let’s try to address your questions.
For #1, I’m afraid that this hasn’t been possible since the introduction of the Gutenberg editor, which Blocksy is based on. There isn’t a possibility of setting the featured image as a video, but that’s on our to-do exploration list for a future release. Keep an eye out for updates on this one. 🙂
For #2, this one is an Elementor limitation, where it does not output the contents of the heading element as a HTML attribute. That’s why the shadow effect is not really possible on there, because it is done with CSS, which relies on this HTML attribute that I’m speaking of. Sorry, but no can do on this one.
Hope this clears things up!
Thanks.
Hello @cteduard
I really wanted to use the Blocksy theme and even planned to purchase the Pro version, but unfortunately my first two (simple) needs were not met. So, to not say I didn’t insist: in relation to your response about the “impossibility” of the featured video in Gutenberg, I verified that it is indeed possible. Example screenshot using Astra theme: https://prnt.sc/tj77b2vRZ_2l
I have no doubt that this is a basic feature that the competent Blocksy team can implement quickly! 🙂 But since I have a site in development, do you have any temporary code to suggest?
In relation to the text effect in the Persona template, your response was not clear to me. The effect appears in the titles of the Pages and Blog (which is independent of Elementor). What I wanted to know in my question was: “where to edit”? What location? In the customization options?
Finally, since the template is not 100% compatible with Elementor, could you kindly inform me of the CSS for the effect? Thanks
Hello @monikbr
Sorry if the initial response was a bit confusing in writing, but I still stand by what I said. The post format feature is not part of the core WordPress software anymore and is only added as additional code on top of themes, which want to implement this. Here’s the default 2023 theme — https://streamable.com/xof3sw. Notice there’s no post format option. The same is valid for the other default themes as well.
This legacy mechanism is up to the theme to reimplement in their code, and with Blocksy, we pride ourselves in using the very latest technology with zero legacy code, so that’s why this legacy mechanism hasn’t been implemented — we follow the core WordPress developer guidelines very closely.
Again, sorry, but the feature you want isn’t available inside our theme.
For the second part of the inquiry, I’m sorry, but the question wasn’t clear to me either. You’ve asked about titles inside the content and how to edit them. And you got an exact answer — the titles outputted by Elementor do not contain the “title” HTML attribute, which makes it impossible to add the shadow effect to them. This does not mean that the template is incompatible with Elementor, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that from.
If you wish to edit the effect for the page/post title area, that has been achieved with CSS, and you can find this under the Customiser -> Additional CSS pane.
Hope this finally clears things up! 🙂
Thanks.
I found the explanations in the WordPress base itself and understood that it is optional for the theme to offer this benefit or not. I leave it here only for possible future searches from other people (in my case featured video):
“Post Formats is a theme feature introduced with Version 3.1. A Post Format is a piece of meta information that can be used by a theme to customize its presentation of a post. The Post Formats feature provides a standardized list of formats that are available to all themes that support the feature. A theme may not support every format on the list; in such a case, it is good form to make this known to users.(………..) In short, with a theme that supports Post Formats, a blogger can change how a post looks by choosing a Post Format.”

Thank you!
Hello @monikbr
While the article from the developer pages is valid, it still refers to legacy technology, which is to be used with the classic editor, not with Gutenberg, which Blocksy is powered by (and the other default themes as well).
This is mainly the reason why you do not see the feature activated even on the latest default themes — it is something from the past which does pretty much nothing in combination with the Gutenberg editor, as most of the post format options have been ported to the Gutenberg core blocks library. You can already achieve 99% of what were the post format options just by editing your posts accordingly.
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to support this legacy technology into Blocksy, as it can cause issues with the latest technologies that are used in WordPress and third party editing plugins. We only use the latest modern programming standards for Blocksy and analysing the code will definitely confirm this.
There are many other developers who share the same thoughts on this, and if you wish you can read more here — https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-post-formats/
Hope this finally clears things up 🙂
Thank you.
Yes, it was clarified that some themes decide to keep the feature and others don’t, simple as that!
As the site in question publishes videos in the articles, we need the videos to appear and be updated on the home page. In this case, let’s use a theme that supports featured video (in Gutenberg) – fortunately we have plenty to choose from.Thank you for the time spent on this assistance, I will certainly think of Blocksy in my next project.
I wish you success!
Great, glad we could clear things up, @monikbr 😊
And thank you for the kind words! ❤️
