I turned on post notifications just last week and my first post notification email sent out successfully without issues. It is a simple email that features my most recent post at the top with all previous posts below it.

The email that sent out today does show my most recent post at the top, followed by the header “Previous posts”, but the section below (meant to feature my last 3 posts) is completely blank. The preview is still showing up as correct but what got sent out was not. I would like to resolve this before my next post. I am hesitant to turn the post notifications off and on again, since the first time I turned it on, it retroactively sent out my previous week’s post when I only wanted new posts from that moment forward to send out.

    Hi there @amycarroccia,

With Post Notification emails, once a post has sent out in a specific notification email, it will not be re-sent in future emails — this would be why those “previous posts” were not included in the next post notification. In other words, even if the “Automatic Latest Content” block is set to send up to 3 posts, it will only include any new posts that have been posted since the last time it sent out. If a post was sent previously, it will not be resent.

Regarding the Preview in the editor, it is used for demonstration purposes so you can edit and adjust display settings (alignment, Read more, image, etc) however doesn’t necessarily represent what will be sent when the email processes and sends out.

There’s a lot more information about the expected behavior with Post Notification emails in our guide here:

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Thank you so much! This makes a lot of sense now. I did browse the FAQ for Post Notifications but am still unsure of one thing. Now that I know I Need to alter my post notification email, I see I can only edit it by first deactivating it.

    • If I deactivate it, edit it to remove the “previous posts” section, then activate it again before my next post, is there a risk of a blank, duplicate email being sent out?
    • If I deactivate it, edit it to remove the “previous posts” section, then activate it again after I publish my next post, will it automatically send out my last post? as it did the first time I activated the post notification? In the FAQ it states “After you’ve created a Post Notification and the first email has been sent, only newly published posts from that point onwards will be sent.” but does this rule apply when you deactivate and reactivate the post notification for the same email?

I can’t thank you enough for your help! 🙂

    Hello there @amycarroccia ,

Thank you for your follow-up and kind words! I’m glad the information helped clarify things. Let me address your questions regarding editing and reactivating your Post Notification email:

    1. Will deactivating, editing, and reactivating cause a blank or duplicate email to be sent?
No, deactivating and editing your Post Notification email won’t cause a blank or duplicate email to be sent. Once you reactivate it, it will resume working as intended, sending only newly published posts after the last processed email.
    2. If I deactivate, edit, and reactivate after publishing my next post, will it send my last post again?
The Post Notification system will not resend posts that have already been sent, even if the notification was deactivated and reactivated. It will only send new posts published after reactivation. The rule mentioned in the FAQ still applies—only newly published posts will be sent moving forward.

You can confidently deactivate, make the necessary adjustments (such as removing the “previous posts” section), and reactivate your Post Notification email without worrying about unwanted duplicates or blank emails.

    Cheers!
