# Posts sorted by date

 * I am trying to do a custom display on my site. Here is how I’d like to display
   the posts:
 * **3.8.08**
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
 * **3.7.08**
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
 * **3.6.08**
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
    - Post Category: Post Title
 * I have a pretty decent understanding of the loop and custom queries, but this
   one is stumping me. I know I need to use the_date, but I can’t figure it out.
 * Help! 🙂

 * Yes, the_date does it for you out of the box. Just read the docs:
    [Template_Tags/the_date](http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_date)
   and take a closer look at the Classic theme. It displays the posts exactly like
   that.
