# Problem changing site language

 * Hello people.
 * I have a problem with my wordpress site. I got to work on the school’s website
   and I can’t change the language, I have the option for the site’s language only
   English, and that’s a big problem for me since the site must be in Cyrillic. 
   Has anyone had a similar problem and does anyone know how to fix it.

 * Under Settings > General you can select the language that is used for your website.

   if you open the selection field, you can see both the installed and installable
   languages.
 * Cyrillic is not a language but a writing system that is used by different languages.
   Select the one you want to use here. The backend will then be displayed in this
   language. You can determine what is displayed in the frontend yourself.

 * My problem is that I only have the English language available on the list in 
   the settings. Unfortunately, I did not do the installation of WordPress, I got
   such a WordPress site installed. I know how to change the language in the settings,
   usually there is a list of all available languages. In this case, I only have
   English available, and the site should be in Serbian in Cyrillic. So I am interested
   in whether there is a possibility to somehow manually add the Serbian language
   to the site. My problem is that about 500 articles have already been entered 
   on the site. And if possible, I wouldn’t want to have to do a new installation
   of WordPress.

 * I checked the source code. You may lack the authorization to install languages.
   In this case, these are not visible.
 * If you have the Administrator role yourself, that would of course be strange.
   In this case, I would guess that the authorizations in your installation have
   been changed. This can be caused by plugins that handle them incorrectly.
 * One possible solution could be the plugin [https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/).
   There you could check your role with regard to the permissions and also adjust
   them. The administrator role is not immediately visible in their interface. You
   first have to activate it in the settings.
 * If that doesn’t help either, you can also use the same plugin to reset the permissions
   to WordPress default (as with a new installation). You can find the option for
   this in the plugin settings. Attention: this really resets all permissions. It
   may make sense to deactivate and reactivate all plugins afterwards so that they
   can add their permissions again.
 * I think it always makes sense to create a backup beforehand.
