 * I have seen this problem on another topic and I posted there too.
 * I am trying to install wp on my site using fantastico. I have done it in the
past a few times without any problems.
 * I tried everything suggested: cleared cookies, etc.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled
again and again on a couple of sites. Wasted all day on it.
 * It is not my first time installing a wpblog, never had problems before.
 * I want to add that I am using fantastico, and when clicking on visit site, I
   get this message:
    “The page isn’t redirecting properly
 * Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address
in a way that will never complete.
 * * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
    cookies.“
 * I know this means the blog wasn’t installed successfully, but I tried installing
in on a couple of websites without any luck.
 * like the problem in the other thread when I try to login, the page refresh with
   no error message.
 * I also tried the lost pw option, and nothing.
 * Maybe it is WP problem.
 * Thanks for the help

 * I’m having trouble upgrading – my site is completely offline and have been trying
for days to get it back up. My semi-techie friends are wishing my luck, suggested
   that I post something here.

 * I am new on wordpress, i try to install wp ofline.using apache that i got from
   [http://www.appservnetwork.com.installing](http://www.appservnetwork.com.installing)
apache is done, but when i try to install wp,after changing wp-config.ph file
etc, its stuck and said like this:
 * Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username
and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t
contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database
   server is down.
 * •Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    •Are you sure that
you have typed the correct hostname? •Are you sure that the database server is
running? If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your
host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
 * Does any one know the solutions?thanks bro…

 * You need to create a database. Do you have access to phpmyadmin? What OS are
you running? Windows or Linux? Try connecting to [http://localhost/phpmyadmin](http://localhost/phpmyadmin)
   in your browser.

 * I know this isn’t what anyone wants to hear, but I found that I had nothing but
problems until I gave up on Fantastico and installed manually. Apparently Fantastico
hadn’t kept up with the current version – or something. In any case, once I did
the manual installation, everything worked perfectly. I get that you had success
with it in the past, but I think it would be worth your while to try doing it
   manually. Good luck!

 * I totally agree. Fantastico sounds like a good idea, but isn’t. And their lack
of timeliness on new versions may not just be their fault, as I suspect that
new versions await your web host’s staff time to update, too.
 * From my experience, the three main problems with Fantastico are:
    1. it doesn’t do new version upgrades, which means that you have to do it yourself
without the benefit of the experience of doing the original install yourself.
It also means that Fantastico will tell you that your software is whatever you
installed with it initially, even when you upgrade to a new version manually.
    2. they often add special features. For example, in a phpBB install I did, they
added a whole bunch of language support, but deleted the default: British English.
End result = MODs (the equivalent of plug-ins) wouldn’t work as they tried to
install into the British English folder (which didn’t exist).
    3. the timeliness issues mentioned previously. This is especially troublesome when
you want to install the latest version just after a major security breach has
been found in the previous version and a new version just released.
 * All that said, Fantastico may be useful for simple pieces of software with long
   periods between new version releases.

 * Thanks for the replies, I will try installing manually.
