# Problem setting up Gmail

    when I try to send a test email I get the message:
 * An error occured. Show more details.
    SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
   Error Sending Message Gmail works with Wysija to [xxxxxx@googlemail.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/problem-setting-up-gmail/xxxxxx@googlemail.com?output_format=md)

 * Hello there,
 * This is simply because MailPoet uses the SMTP protocol to send emails with Gmail.
   And your host is blocking the port 465.
 * Basically get in touch with your host and ask them to unblock this port.
 * The easiest solution though is to change of sending method.
 * Setup a third party sending method such as SendGrid : [http://www.mailpoet.com/email-service-providers/](http://www.mailpoet.com/email-service-providers/)
