Problem with auto-generated tags in WP editor

    I am using the WP 2.0 default editor and NOT the visual rich editor. It is great, but the editor inserts matching tags which confuse my CSS, so I am forced to edit directly in the MySQL table to make any changes. I need to be able to place the tags where I want them without the editor second-guessing me.

    How do I do that?
