 * Hi,
    I’m trying to install wordpress in local using microsoft web platform as
   described in the codex. all seem fine until the moment the system asks for a
   password that I’ve never inserted and that of course i don’t know. I’ve tried
   several times but I stop always at the same point. May you help? thanks Luciano

 * At exactly what point is it asking for a password?
 * Although this would appear to be a WebMatrix (WM) question for their support,
   I just now downloaded and installed WM and successfully set up a local WP 3.6
   site.
 * During the WP install process in WM, it prompts you for a database password.
   I entered one and it moved forward with the install. You end up at the final
   page of the WP installation where you enter the Site Name and the site admin
   name, password and email. Click run the install and there you go … log into the
   WP Admin Dashboard with the values YOU just entered 🙂
 * All this being said, is there any particular reason you want to go with WebMatrix?
   If all you want to do is run WP (or Joomla!, Drupal, eFront, Prestashop, etc.)
   locally, there are so many other simpler and less onerous local server apps.
 * In the time it took me just to install WM, I could have easily downloaded The
   Uniform Server (TUS) (my personal fave local server), set it up, and had a WP
   site up and running. And the nice thing about TUS is that it does not “install”
   anything on your computer; you can even run it from a USB stick 🙂

 * Hello,
    the set up of the web platform (WPI) runs fine. The password is prompted
   during the WP installation, almost at the beginning. The exact message is “the
   specified password for the user “root” is not valid or it has not been possible
   to connect with the requested server (my translation from italian language…).
   About your question: I was used to WMAPP but I have troubles with it as well,
   so I was just looking for a method to avoid it and reading the Codex it seemed
   an easy way. Now I’ll try your suggestion. I’ve the impression that something
   on my PC makes difficult or impossible to run mysql and Apach properly. Is this
   possible? thank you very much for your support

 * It works!!
    Thanks a lot. It was a problem of port. Apache was listening to port
   80 which was apparently not available. I’ve modified it to port 8080 and all
   went fine. Now I’ve WordPress installed on my local PC. By the way you were right
   about the use of TUS, is quite easy and immediate. Thanks again Luciano
