 * Hello fellow WP users,
 * I have recently encountered a problem while setting up wordpress for my business
   webpage.
 * I run WP 5.2.2. on localhost via bitnami (php version 7.x). It seems to work
out of the box. There are 3 themes already as stock but I want to upload my custom
   theme bought elsewhere.
 * Not sure if this is a theme or wp/localhost issue that’s why I have decided to
   seek help on this forum.
 * Before my attempt to instal a theme, I had no active plugins of any kind.
    I
have logged into a dashboard, uploaded theme-name.zip file at temes menu and
   theme is successfully instaled. However…
 * When I try to see the live preview of a theme my browser (Chrome) gives me an
error ERR_CONNECTION_RESET. I ignore this and I activate a theme. Before the
activation even starts I get an error page with the same error (ERR_CONNECTION_RESET)
and my whole localhost/wordpress is down. I can’t even access localhost/wordpress/
   login.
 * So I go to my wp-content/themes and delete theme-name folder. I can now access
   localhost/wordpress/login again.
 * The theme that I am trying to install has some custom plugins required to be
instaled. I delete my theme, I manually install theme-name core plugin, activate
it and then try to install custom theme again. Still not working I encounter
   the same error.
 * I have already reached out to my theme support but their answer was like this:
 * > Hello there,
   > Welcome to your support management and thank you for choosing our theme!
   > In order to solve this issue, please follow the next steps:
   > 1. Delete Theme-Name Core plugin
   > You need to delete the core plugin before updating the theme. If you don’t
   > have access to admin panel, you need to delete the core plugin manually from
   > your server.
   > 2. Deactivate all another theme plugin
   > 3. Update theme
   > First, you need to use an FTP client ( like FileZila )
   > Download latest All
   > files & documentation file from ThemeForest (your Downloads page) Extract it
   > and locate theme-name.zip Extract theme-name.zip and locate the theme-name
   > folder Copy/Replace the content of the theme folder to /wp-content/themes/theme-
   > name folder of your web site.
   > 4. Install Theme Name Core plugin
   > 5. Activate all another theme plugin
 * I have followed the steps but with no luck.
 * Does anyone have some idea how to fix it?
    Thanks, Lev

 * Hi,
 * Sometimes themes comes as a .zip folder but you may need to open this to then
find the actual .zip file to upload, depending on the theme. Once you’re sure
it’s the right .zip file; it should be a simple dashboard > themes > upload theme..
 * If it doesn’t activate after this point I’d highly recommend requesting some
support from the creators of the theme; or just go with a more popular theme
with plenty of documentation or support. WordPress has come a long way so uploading&
activating a premium theme shouldn’t cause you any issues..

 * Thanks for the tip, but I have uploaded .zip file with theme contents only.
 * As this is one of the super popular non-WP themes I’m beginning to think I might
have issues regarding my bitnami/apache2 settings. Although I have tried and
installed a fresh version of bitnami twice. Also if I restart MySQL and apache
servers (as was recommended on bitnami forums) it doesn’t resolve it.

 * I just need a localhost for wordpress so I can modfy a theme to my liking and
add content before I upload it to my hosting.

 * I have found a solution. Instead of using bitnami I have instaled MAMP (that
also runs apache/MySQL serves) and now it works.
 * Maybe someone will find it useful 🙂
