* With both plugins enabled, I am receiving an error which prevents backup buddy
to go through with a backup.
* HTTP Loopback Connections are not enabled on this server or are not functioning
properly. You may encounter stalled, significantly delayed backups, or other
difficulties. See details in the box below. This may be caused by a conflicting
plugin such as a caching plugin. Click for instructions on how to resolve this
issue. Details:

this website note that your access has been limited because you broke one of
the Wordfence firewall rules. The reason you access was limited is: ”Manual
block by administrator”.

If this is a false positive, meaning
that your access to your own site has been limited incorrectly, then you will
need to regain access to your site, go to the Wordfence “options” page, go to
the section for Firewall Rules and disable the rule that caused you to be blocked.
For example, if you were blocked because it was detected that you are a fake
Google crawler, then disable the rule that blocks fake google crawlers. Or if
you were blocked because you were accessing your site too quickly, then increase
the number of accesses allowed per minute.

If you’re still having
trouble, then simply disable the Wordfence firewall and you will still benefit
from the other security features that Wordfence provides.

* It sounds like your server’s own IP address has been blocked manually. Go to
the Blocked IPs list, and find the server IP address, and remove it from the
list.
* If you blocked the IP intentionally because of attacks you saw in the logs, you
may need to check with the host to see how some visits are showing up with the
server’s IP instead of their own IPs. (The problem must not be happening with
all of the visits, because you are still able to access the site.)
* If the site previously had “Varnish” caching enabled, but does not anymore, it
might not be a problem anymore. You can check on the Live Traffic page to see
if visits are showing up with unique IP addresses.

* I checked and some of the sites that are incurring this issue have 0 IPs blocked.
I verified that on sites that do have IPs blocked, the server IP is not included
in the list.

* IP blocks are temporary, so it’s possible the firewall rules are set too strict,
causing them to be blocked only on some attempts — at least on the servers with
no blocked IPs. Do you have Wordfence set to email you alerts when an IP is blocked?
That can be a good way to trace them, if the backups may be occuring when you’re
not available to view the blocked IPs.
* In those cases, they would be getting a different message other than “Manual
block by administrator”, since that should only appear for addresses you’ve blocked
manually.
* For the server(s) that saw the exact message above, do you have any type of reverse
proxy, such as Varnish, nginx, or CloudFlare? These can change the IP address
the server sees, depending on your settings, so it’s possible that a different
blocked IP address is the problem.

* It’s occurring on quite a few sites, some of which are just running Wordfence
out of the box with no changes really, some have the wp login hidden along with
minor changes, and some are more extensive changes. I have tried running a backup
while logged in and it gives me the same error as it does when the automated
backup fails. When it failed during my manual attempts, Wordfence didn’t show
any blocked IPs.
* None of the sites having an issue are using Cloudflare or any similar service.

* Does it always show “Manual block by administrator” as the reason for the blocked
request? I’ve never seen that appear without a manual block having been done,
so it’s really strange for the site to have 0 blocked IPs but still show that
message.
* If you try manually blocking an IP address on the Blocked IPs page, then go to
a different page, and click Blocked IPs again, does the IP stay blocked? There
might be a problem with the form not showing the IPs that really are blocked.
* If that might be the case, you could also try reinstalling Wordfence after turning
on “Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation” near the bottom of the
Wordfence options page. If the backup works properly after that, there might
still be a conflict stopping you from seeing blocked IPs, but that would narrow
down the issue and solve part of the problem.
