# Problems with inserting Hyperlinks

 * My site is at [http://www.siteguide.us](http://www.siteguide.us) When I insert
   a hyperlink to a word or phrase using the visual rich editor, without the http://
   the link appears in the post as a redirect.
 * e.g. I enter a link as example.com (not [http://example.com](http://example.com))
 * Now, in the post, the link appears as [http://www.siteguide.us/example.com](http://www.siteguide.us/example.com)
   which does not work, of course.
 * Is this a bug with WP or is it a different problem..

 * My guess is that without the [http://](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/problems-with-inserting-hyperlinks/?output_format=md),
   it treats it as a relative link and not an absolute one. Same thing happens when
   you do that with an anchor tag in normal HTML. So, actually, it’s behaving properly
   and is not a bug.

 * That’s how links are supposed to behave. The http:// is not an optional extra.

 * Thanks for the replies! It is just that, I assumed that the http:// would automatically
   precede non-http:// links. I guess that works only in the case of browsers.
