 * i was just wondering if there is some kind of editor or program i have to use
   to customize the files from a theme i downloaded. i am new with php but usually
   just simply use notepad to write my html. i tried to open index.php in notepad
   and it wont work. help!

 * It should. Notepad is one of the recommended [plain text editors](http://codex.wordpress.org/glossary#Text_editor)
   for editing the theme files. Of course, any (non-wysiwyg) html editor is fine.
