 * I have just started using the Waymark plugin. I created a map, and published
   it. I added the shortcode to a draft post. If you go to my website and search
   for a key word that is used in the map title, the user will see the published
   map, as if it is a post. This isn’t what I want to happen, I only want the posts
   to show in a search, not the map separately. If, for example, you search for “
   Kruse”, you get a post from 2018, AND the map from 2025 that is embedded in a
   post that hasn’t been published yet. Is there a way to prevent this? If, for
   example, I create a map, DON’T publish it, but use the embed code in a post that
   is published, will the map show up properly in the post? It won’t be found in
   the search if I do that. I’m not certain if there is a problem with embedding
   a map code without the map being “published”. Thank you.

 * Hi [@ccrussell](https://wordpress.org/support/users/ccrussell/),
 * Thanks for reaching out. Yes this is the default behaviour – a Map post (custom
   post type `waymark_map`) is created for each Map, which themes may treat as regular
   posts (i.e. appearing in search results etc). I am actually surprised this has
   not been requested before.
 * I have reviewed the source code and run some tests and I see no reason why the
   Map can be unpublished (i.e. set to draft) or privately published. The Waymark
   Shortcode only cares that it is a valid Map ID that has not been deleted (i.e.
   in trash).
 * I hope this helps. Please do let me know if you encounter any issues.
 * If you like the plugin and you (or your organisation) benefits from Waymark,
   please consider supporting the continued development of the plugin through [sponsorship](https://github.com/sponsors/OpenGIS)
   🙂
 * Cheers,

 * Thank you for the quick reply!
 * You said ” I see no reason why the Map can be unpublished”, I assume you meant
   that you see no reason why the Map **cannot** be unpublished? I did some tests,
   leaving the map as a draft or pending status, as well as publishing it as “private”,
   all seemed to work. And from what you are saying, I assume that there won’t be
   a hidden “gotcha” in there. So, thank you, this should work for me.

 * Apologies for the typo – that is correct.

 * Hi [@ccrussell](https://wordpress.org/support/users/ccrussell/),
 * I just wanted to reply before this thread gets archived, as I have given some
   more thought to this.
 * Currently, the Waymark [Shortcode](https://www.waymark.dev/docs/shortcodes/)
   will display a Map with the provided ID if it exists, no matter the [Post Status](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/post-status/)
   of the Map. On reflection this doesn’t feel quite right. I think both the Shortdcode
   and [Map Details](https://www.waymark.dev/map/route-map/) page should honour
   the status of the post (draft/public/private etc)
 * I realise that I offered this as a work-around to your situation (i.e. using
   the Shortcode to display unpublished Maps so they do not appear in search results),
   but I just wanted to give you a heads up that this may change in the future.
 * If/when this does change, I think I will add a [Setting](https://www.waymark.dev/docs/settings/)
   that excludes Maps from search results using the [exclude_from_search](https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/register_post_type/#exclude_from_search)
   option. This should work with your search solution.
 * All the best,
 * Joe
