 * Does wordpress version 3.0.1 automatically fix and redirect 404’s or do I need
   to install a plugin for this?

 * WordPress does not automatically redirect 404s.
 * A lot of WordPress themes handle 404s well from a user standpoint by displaying
   the theme with a helpful message in the content area. However, from an SEO standpoint,
   it is still a 404.

   Redirection is essentially routine for our installs these days. You can always
   create a 404 page template containing a quick sitemap & blog search or modify
   your current during your next Installation. [Link removed – this is not an advertising
