 * Hello all
 * I am looking to know how to give someone temporary backend read only access to
   a wordpress website. WordPress version 6.4.2
 * The intent is that that user can view the entire website within the backend,
   Ie menus, plugins, code, pictures, content etc etc. Meaning there is nothing
   they cannot see. In accessing this, the user should not be able to make any changes
   at all, including to content or user roles.
 * Can this be achieved, either within WordPress itself, or with a plugin, or with
   code?
 * Assistance much appreciated…
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fread-only-admin-access%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * Hello,
 * You can try to create a new user and set limited access to the user.
 * Go to Users > Add New.
   Fill in User Details:
 * Enter a username, email address, and a strong password for the new user.
   Set
   the Role as SubscriberThe lowest level of access is primarily used for people
   who want to read content and may have an account for commenting. Subscribers
   do not have any editing or publishing capabilities

 * As much as I love that WP-Members was mentioned here (and it’s a good choice
   for many options), probably the simplest way to do what you’re asking to do is
   use [User Role Editor](https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/) to create
   a custom role that doesn’t have any edit capabilities. Viewing (list) posts,
   users, options, etc are all separate capabilities from editing the same items.
   You can use that plugin to copy the admin role and then remove all of the capabilities
   you don’t want your “read only” user to have – basically everything with “edit”
   in the capability name and any “list” options that you also want to remove.
