n Yoast settings I have left ‘ redirect attachment urls to the attachment itself’ at default setting of enabled. So that presumably tales care of attachment pages. But here’s a question I can’t get an answer to, not even on Yoast forum here.
In ‘attachment display settings’, out of the four options, I have traditionally set my images inserted to posts to link to the media file itself – the url that Yoast indexes. Is it advisable to link to ‘none’from an SEO point of view, or does it make any difference? It has only occurred to me that unless I want a visitor to specifically click on the image to – say -enlarge it, then it is of no value to use that option. I read that setting links to ‘none’ helps avoid bounces but there isn’t a great deal on that subject on the web. I have – ahem .. about 7000 images to change if this is the case. Image SEO is a big thing for me as it accounts for 30% of all Google searches.

    Hi @glamourdaze,

Whether you should link or not to your images is more about user experience than it is about SEO. In general, unless there is a good reason for why would someone want to see the full-sized image, then you should not link to the images.

For example, when reading an article, if one accidentally clicks on the image then a new page will load and the reader might be bothered by this. This is a bigger problem on mobile devices.

That being said, if being able to (easily) see the full-sized images is important to your readers, then linking to your images would make sense. If it does not provide a good user experience, then you may want to stop linking to your images.
