# redirect doesn't work

 * Hi,
 * I installed wordpress in a directory called wordpress under the directory public_html.
   I created a .htaccess file with de following text
    redirect /wordpress [http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl](http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl)
 * the problem is that when i type in my url i get the next message:
 * You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
    Additionally, a 404 Not
   Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the
   request.
 * when i delete the .htaccess file and type [http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wordpress](http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wordpress)
   then its oké.
 * What am i doing wrong.

 * I somewhat doubt that your .htaccess modification approach will work.
 * I have always used this instructions to accomplish the same thing, and they have
   never failed me:

 * Thanks jonradio.Now it’s working.
    But…now i cannot reach my login. The link 
   is using this adress [http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wp-login.php](http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wp-login.php)
   instead of [http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wordpress/wp-login.php](http://www.sjackjansmafotografie.nl/wordpress/wp-login.php).
 * the index.php file in the wordpress directory
    /** Loads the WordPress Environment
   and Template */ require(‘./wp-blog-header.php’);
 * and te index.php file in the root directory
    /** Loads the WordPress Environment
   and Template */ require(‘./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’);
 * the .htaccess files are in both directories the same.

 * Hard to say “from the outside”, but since the .css file is not being accessed
   by your home page, I would check the value of WordPress address (URL) in Settings-
   General.
 * The correct settings in your case are:
    WordPress address (URL): [http://example.com/wordpress](http://example.com/wordpress)
   Site address (URL): [http://example.com](http://example.com) And you can’t use
   this technique with Multisite.
 * Since you cannot access your Admin panel, you should follow the instructions 
   here:
    [http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL)
