# [ref] shortcode not working

 * I can’t get the [ref] shortcode to work. I watched the animated gif in the screenshots,
   and when I try to use something like the following, my page load just breaks:
 * [ref id=”9702770″]
 * I’ve tried changing my theme to the default, and disabling all other plugins,
   without any success. There are no console errors to report.
 * Please advise?

 * Hi there. Sorry for the late response. I rarely check this support thread (the
   one you should be posting to in the future is [here](https://github.com/dsifford/academic-bloggers-toolkit/issues)).
 * The `ref` shortcode has been depreciated for quite some time. I’m working on 
   a massive update now that will be adding a host of new features (one of which
   is better documentation). Sit tight!
