• Some of our pages are being classified in Google Search Console and in Screaming Frog as “Non-indexable”. We do not have any re-directs and the site seems to be working oK but I am worried that we will not get proper exposure on Google

Here is an excerpt from Screaming Frog.

    Address https://trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/
    URL Encoded Address https://trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/
    Content Type text/html; charset=UTF-8
    Status Code 301
    Status Moved Permanently
    HTTP Version 1.1
    Indexability Non-Indexable
    Indexability Status Redirected
    Redirect URL https://www.trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/
    Redirect Type HTTP Redirect
    Size 0 B 1

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

  • Yes, there is a redirect. From

    https://trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/

    to

    https://www.trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/

Reason is that your website is written in wordpress with www subdomain. In your test, however, you specified it without www, which is why the call is correctly redirected.

Can you please elucidate further and suggest how we can fix it.

I’ve tried putting in canonicals in these pages but that doesnt work.

    Many thanks

Submit your website to Google Search Console with the correct URL (with www). Do not use the URL without www.

Or: change the URL in WordPress under Settings > General to the one without www and save the permalinks afterwards. However, this may change the findability of your website in search engines because the URL changes.

Thank, I will give it a go!

I went for the second option and changed the permalinks format from https://www to https:// but then that broke the site whereby I could only access the home page.
I then did a restore from a downloaded Zip file and after a long delay, the site was accessible again but all the pages and products came up as https://

I then ran Screaming frog and saw that I had double the number of 301 redirects.
To see what has happened please run Screaming Frog.
    Your assistance would be appreciated.

Now the URL of the website is written without www, so the link https://trapbarn.com/rabbit-trap/ does not lead to a redirect anymore. When I test it, I don’t see any redirection either. Unfortunately you did not write which link you used.

    Hi,

I did another reset to make the site to be https://www. ****** again rather than https//**** because I didn’t want to loose the Google SEO ranking that has taken time to build up..
OK, so we are effectively back where we started but if only there was a way to edit the permalink for each page/product then that would be marvellous.

In your previous post, you said “Unfortunately you did not write which link you used.”. I couldn’t work out what you were getting at there. Please forgive me as I am not a WordPress expert; I’m just a 76 year old with a littel ecommerce site which I try to maintain myself.
    Your patience is much appreciated.
