• Hi,

I first created my website under another website in a sub directory. I then backed up the FTP files and copied them to the correct web directory. For starters the website was live however all the pages and login were still pointing to the old sub directory. I then created a database and exported the SQL from the old database and found and replaced all instances of the old url. This consequently gave me 500 server errors on all pages except the home page. I then logged into the back end of wordpress and changed the permilinks to default and that fixed the pages.

The issue I am having now is most of my images are missing, title styling has disappeared, alot of my widget are missing and a few weird things are coming up that shouldn’t be there.

I don’t know much about databases and have read somewhere that the length of the url could be an issue? If so how do I go about this please help! I am using cpanel if this is any help.

  • I think you need to review Moving_WordPress.

Hi just to clarify. I would be looking at the section “when your domain name or URLs Change” it is asking me to search and replace the wp_posts table. Now do I only export that table and search and replace or do I export all table and just search and replace the wp_posts table? Sorry if this may be a obvious question.

    Hi Esmi,

I followed the instructions and they did not seem to work. I also decided to create a new database and move everything to that database. Still having the same issues.

You need to download a database backup, run the search & replace and then re-import the backup into the old, empty, database.
