 * I fear that I will have to reinstall WordPress, as since changing my domain name
there seem to be a number of inconsistencies which I cannot resolve. I have ftp’d
the webspace down to my local hard drive, but what I want to know is if there’s
any way of preserving the mySQL db and then reimporting it after I’ve reinstalled
   WP ?

 * Yes, of course. You should have some tool provided by your host that will let
you export the DB. PhpMyAdmin is common but there are others. I can’t say what
   you have available.
