# ‘Remote’ scanning

 * A theoretical idea/suggestion for running scans on a VPS. Possibly a future premium
   option?
 * Thinking ‘out loud’, what I’d like to be able to do is take the CPU and memory
   usage/impact of scans away from the main web server (a multi-site environment)
   by running scans on a separate server instance, with it’s own CPU and memory
   allocation, that has access to the main website files and database. Something
   like handling backups outside of WordPress.
 * I’ve just watched a scan’s impact on the VPS I’m running and CPU usage spiked
   at 66% from around 1-2% average over about 15 minutes.
 * One way, if possible, could be a CRON and CLI type option on the separate instance
   with database and file storage configuration/parameters pointing to the main
   server.
 * Another way (again, if possible) could be to replicate the entire site, both
   database and files, to the other instance and run the scans on the website replica.
 * Is any of this feasible? Other options?
 * Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

 * Hello,
 * If you go to our contact page below and send an email to the feedback email address
   then we can look at your suggestions in more detail:
 * [Send Feedback to Wordfence](https://www.wordfence.com/contact/)
 * In the meantime on the **“Options”** page you can enable the option **“Use low
   resource scanning (reduces server load by lengthening the scan duration)”**.
 * Also viewing the **“Scan”** page consumes more resources so you can change the
   setting **“Update interval in seconds (2 is default)”**. Setting it to something
   like 10 or 15 seconds, will dramatically reduce the amount of processing power
   that viewing the “Scan” page will consume.
