You should be able to turn off comments under Settings > Discussion and on existing pages/posts – click on Quick Edit and unselect Allow Comments.

Hi, I am using the motif theme and I am not very computer savvy so is there a simple solution or way to disable comments box (leave a reply)??

I cannot see the edit option under appearance..
