# replacing Drupal DB with WordPress

 * Am setting up WP on a domain with existing Drupal DB.
    Wordpress is FTP’d to 
   a sub-directory of the root, so this sits alongside the Drupal (not inside it,
   or vice versa).
 * Problem is that I can’t open up the install.php for WordPress, so as to and begin
   building the new db. If i go to:
    [http://www.example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php)
 * this leads to ‘page not found’ with a drupal logo.
 * I phoned hosting about this who reckoned the Drupal would be intercepting pages.
   He said this could be got round by tweaking .htaccess file on the drupal side.
   
   I am too cautious to go here – what d’you recommend.

 * I assume (a bad thing to do usually) that you have set drupal up to run from /
   blog/?
 * If so I would move my wordpress folder to a completely ‘clean’ root folder away
   from any Drupal stuff, and try install from there. If you plan tp replace drupal
   you don’t want to have any drupal content or structures near wordpress.

 * the exisiting Drupal is in example.com/website
    the new WP is in example.com/
   blog
 * as far as I can manage the two programs are in completely separate subdirectories,
   and can’t see how Drupal should interfere with the WP sub. Although as you say
   its not a completely clear root folder.
 * I will also use separate MySQLs. (I’m not going to migrate the old DB either –
   starting from scratch, but need to leave the existing Drupal content live for
   the clients audience.)
 * The Drupal db was done by another programmer, site now to be replaced by WP theme.
 * My other option is to use completely different host to build (and then migrate
   to replace thte Drupal), but that will cost me.

 * I always said assuming was a bad habit….
 * i have installed drupal and wordpress on one site and no ill effects – client
   wanted to tset out both and see which suited him best.
 * Is all of drupal in exzamle.com/website/drupal-stuff? I know this sounds stupid
   but is ther an .htaccess file in your root web directory? As far as I can remember
   the drupal one should sit in the drupal folder not the root.
 * When you get the drupal logo with the page not found is the URL as you would 
   expect i.e example.com/blog/wp-admin/?
 * If you want to post me the URL (on or off list) I can take a quick look for you.
   You don’t need to go to new hosting, I would be fairly sure that it is just a
   tweak somewhere that needs sorting.
