 * For some time, I’ve been running the free version of Updraftplus and it’s been
backing up my multisite installation. It warns me that doing it this way means
that any admin can read any site, which is fine, as I’m the only admin.
 * Today I tried to restore after a server crash, only to be told that a) it wouldn’t
restore because it’s a multisite and b that it’s not a restore anyway as the
site base is different – it’s only different because I need to restore the thing
to get the original settings back
 * What can I do here?

 * Hi,
 * These messages should just be warnings. You should be able to ignore the warnings
   and proceed with the restoration.
 * Alternatively, you can restore the backup manually. We have a guide on doing
   so here:
    [https://updraftplus.com/faqs/i-want-to-restore-but-have-either-cannot-or-have-failed-to-do-so-from-the-wp-admin-console/](https://updraftplus.com/faqs/i-want-to-restore-but-have-either-cannot-or-have-failed-to-do-so-from-the-wp-admin-console/)
 * For Multisites, we recommend UpdraftPlus Premium or the Multisite add-on. Details
on these can be found on our site: [https://updraftplus.com](https://updraftplus.com)

 * Had I but known that, I could have saved myself two days work this week. As it
was, the messages from the plugin on a fresh WP install were so unhelpful and
damning that I simply reverted to my second-level SQL backups (NOT Updraft) and
managed recover the data directory from the faulty EBS volume.
 * Here’s an irony – on a successful restore, i’d immediately have gone out and
taken out a sub to the full version: as it is, you’ve turned off this potential
   customer for life.
