# RSS summary problem / question

 * I have a question about displaying the summary of the RSS feed in my wordpress
   blog. I have gone to Settings->Reading and in the section that says ‘For each
   articles in a feed, show:’ I selected Summary.
 * When I view the feed in firefox, I see the summary of the feed. However, when
   I use my News Reader (Akregator) I see the entire article.
 * When I viewed the RSS source, I noticed it displayed both a summary and the full
   content, as follows:
 * <description><![CDATA[ brief summary of content […]]]></description>
    <content:
   encoded><![CDATA[ entire blog entry with images and all]]></content:encoded>
 * I guess my question is, is this a bug in WordPress 2.7? If not, then what exactly
   is the Summary option in Settings->Reading->’For each articles in a feed, show:’
   doing exactly?
 * How can I just show the description without having to modify the rss pages in
   wordpresss?

 * I think I might have discovered a clue as to what is going on.
 * I get a lot of ping back and track back spam, though I have my blog set up so
   that I have to approve comments before they appear, this spam never makes it 
   onto a page.
 * However, from time to time, some of this spam is somehow causing the setting 
   Settings->Reading->’For each articles in a feed, show:’ to be reset to ‘Full 
   Text’.
 * Several times I have set that option to ‘Summary’, and for the past 2 days have
   been logging in to check the status, and after periods of high spam activity,
   this setting gets reset to ‘full text’.
 * At first I thought I was going crazy and I was just making a mistake, or something
   stupid, but today I made a concious effort to write down the times I saved the
   option as ‘summary’, and sure enough a few hours later it would be set back to‘
   full text’.
 * I guess I will turn off ping backs and track backs for now and see if that prevents
   this bug from occurring. I like to keep it on just to track of the incoming links
   these spammers are kind enough to place on their spam site to my blog.
 * Is wordpress aware of this?
