# Run sync and overwrite

 * Hi all,
 * i can’t understand something and I hope you can help me.
   I need to make some 
   changes in some strings of this .po fileHowever, I saw written:
    1. Warning: translations do not match the pattern. Run sync to update from directorys-
       pro.pot
    2. Warning: changes to this file may be overwritten or deleted when you update 
       WordPress

 * I tried to sync in the past and lost most of the translation.
   Also, I don’t understand
   what I should do to not lose the translations I made because the file may be 
   overwritten by an update.
 * Could you give me directions on how to proceed so as not to lose my changes?

 * These are two separate issues –

 * If you lose translations, its because your template says the source text doesn’t
   exist. If this is untrue, then the template is wrong and shouldn’t be used. This
   has nothing to do with the unsafe file location that you’re using.
 * Have you read the documentation on the [Sync function](https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/manual/sync)
   and [working with templates](https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/manual/templates)?
