# Salesforce api and assignment rules

 * I have assignment rules for my leads set up based on the record type that is 
   passed.
 * This worked fine when using the web-to-lead approach. I’ve re-written the form
   to use the api approach, but it seems that using the api, the lead creation bypasses
   the assignment rules. Is there any known workaround for this?

 * So, for the record, one workaround is not to use assignment rules, but to use
   a workflow rule instead. A little bit janky, but it works

 * Thanks gmcinnes – it seems like it’s just not possible using the API.
