 * Setting up the blog, where do I get all the bits so I can just start posting
   to the damn thing.
 * I have Downloaded, unzipped reconfigured the wp-config to look like…..
 * <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** // define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘theftpaddress’); // The
   name of the database define(‘DB_USER’, ‘thedbusername’); // Your MySQL username
   define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘mypassword’); // …and password define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’);//
   99% chance you won’t need to change this value
 * // Change the prefix if you want to have multiple blogs in a single database.

   $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // example: ‘wp_’ or ‘b2’ or ‘mylogin_’
 * // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen
   language must be installed to wp-includes/languages. // For example, install
   de.mo to wp-includes/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’ // to enable German language
   support. define (‘WPLANG’, ”);
 * /* Stop editing */
 * define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__).’/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH.’wp-settings.
   php’); ?>
 * ……then uploaded the lot to: [http://www.peggycharltons.co.uk/blog/wordpress](http://www.peggycharltons.co.uk/blog/wordpress)
   then its probably a familiar looking problem to the people in the know but to
   me it`s a pain in the arse. So the question is what next?
 * oh… I do not know diddly about MySql

 * DB_Name and DB_User look wrong to me.
 * Who is your host ? Do you have cpanel / vdeck / plesk / ensim ?

 * Looks to me like you’ve put your FTP username and password instead of your mySQL
   database name, mySQL database username, and that user’s password.

 * You are correct I have used the FTP stuff but I did state that I knew diddly
   about MySql thanks for the help so far but, how do I resolve this? Do I need
   to install MySql alongside the blog?

 * I have probably answered my own question there but can I install it for free
   and if so how and where?

 * I’ll recommend deleting all that FTP information right away. People can log into
   your site and make any changes they want. [edit]**done**[/edit]

 * I’ve not got a guide for fasthosts….
    Apparently their control panel has won
   awards for ‘ease of use’ …. and their support site is not accessible to me.
 * Do they have a mySQL section ? And are you on a Windows or a Linux server ? (
   the latter is better, and any sort of welcome email should have a lot of info
   for you)

 * fnar……I am on the windows (great, deep sigh) and the support is like Santa in
   July after a night on the Razz, the closest I got to finding out about there
   MySql is by getting to the end of a paragraph in the CP that said pay us some
   money and we will set one up for you, hence the question about can I install
   it myself or is this going to be difficult using the Windows platform?

 * Installing should be fine, it’s other features which need working around.
    I’ve
   installed blogs all over the place – I could have a go for you if you want ?
   I’d need access to the cpanel but I won’t do anything I shouldn’t. If you want
   me to have a go, my email is tamba2 @ gmail . com

 * I would consider it but I am worried that they (fasthosts) are going to rip some
   serious dollar from me bank.
 * i.e
 * quote fasthosts;
    ” Payment options; Please select the payment type for your
   MS SQL 150MB database:
 * Monthly You will be charged £15.00 + VAT per month for MSSQL 150MB database.

   Annually You will be charged £160.00 + VAT per annum for MSSQL 150MB database.
 * Please note: If you exceed the limits on our database products then we will automatically
   charge you for the additional space you use”.
 * I hate parting with money (I am a devout “scrooge”n)..
 * ..I already run a blog @ [http://sunderlandafc.blogspot.com](http://sunderlandafc.blogspot.com)
   but I thought it was time to venture into the world of setting up the stuff meself!

   Is there a place on this blue planet that offers “free hosted MySql”?

 * MS SQL and mySQL are entirely different beasts.
 * Free mySQL ? [http://www.blogsome.com](http://www.blogsome.com) ?
 * [http://www.asmallorange.com](http://www.asmallorange.com) have plans which at
   current exchange rates means you could get hosting at around £2.70 a month.
   It’s a great host too.
