I’m getting this error message when I tried to scan:

    Scan Stage Failed

A scan stage has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself. Wordfence will make up to 2 attempts to resume each failed scan stage. This scan may recover if one of these attempts is successful. Click here for steps you can try.

I have tried deactivating all plugins, same error message. I have talked with my hosting company’s support, they reviewed all logs and find no errors/blocked IPs on their end. All they suggested was restoring my site to a previous version where the scan was working, but I have no idea when that would have been since I haven’t tried to scan the site in a few months.

I’ve also tried everything in this support doc: https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/troubleshooting/#if-your-scans-arent-starting

Would love any help, I’d love to know my site is being scanned, thanks!

  • Hi @jesskenn44

    Thanks for reaching out!

In order to better assist you, are you running cloudflare or any other proxy or firewall?

    Please let me know!

    Thanks,

    Joshua

Hey Joshua, yes – I have Cloudflare set up on this site. Same setup as other sites I manage with Wordfence/Cloudflare, but this is my only site hosted on GoDaddy, the others are various hosts. No errors on those sites.

Actually now seeing this same error message on a site on One.com that’s running Cloudflare and Wordfence. My own site on a small hosting company w/ Cloudflare/Wordfence is NOT giving any error message.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for letting me know!

It looks like Cloudflare in some circumstances is blocking Wordfence Scans from starting.

You can white list these IPs in Cloudlfare:

    44.239.130.172
    44.238.191.15
    35.155.126.231
    54.68.32.247
    44.235.211.232
    54.71.203.174

If that doesnt work, let me know!

    Thanks,

    Joshua

Okay I think I whitelisted them correctly… does this look right? I set them all to allow through the WAF.

    (ip.src eq 44.239.130.172) or (ip.src eq 44.238.191.15) or (ip.src eq 35.155.126.231) or (ip.src eq 54.68.32.247) or (ip.src eq 44.235.211.232) or (ip.src eq 54.71.203.174)

    Set to Allow.

I cleared the cache via Cloudflare and via GoDaddy and still get the same scan error message. Any other ideas?

    Hi there,

Can I see a screenshot of how they look in Cloudflare?

    Thanks,

    Joshua

I tried to add an image block and it wouldn’t let me. How do I send an image? Thanks!

    Hi @jesskenn44

You can upload the image to a site like imgur and attach the link in the Image Block

    I hope this helps!
    Thanks,

    Joshua
