# Security patch

 * I have a number of blogs running 2.02 and 3. It seems now that we are basically
   required to update WP to 2.04 regardless of what version we are using because
   of a single serious security issue. But upgrading is confusing and many are having
   serious problems… slowness, messing it up etc
 * Besides stopping people from posting in the blogs by unchecking allow users to
   register, is there just like a simple patch we can download just to fix the issue?
   Can one be made? This is a hassle and a half.

 * What kind of problems are people having upgrading? I haven’t seen any posts? 
   Regarding a patch, [Mark Jaquith](http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2006/07/30/wordpress-204-upgrade-changed-files-zip-changes-diff-changed-files-list/)
   has put together just the files that were upgraded in 2.0.4, if that helps.
 * Just be sure you run upgrade.php as always.
 * The only discussions of “slowness” I’ve read in the hackers list are sites with
   A LOT of Pages, and no one’s really narrowed down that’s a 2.0.4 issue specifically.
