    Hi,

just started with testing of HD Quiz.

I have created my first quiz with a single question. I changed the quiz type later on to “select all that apply”.

But the quiz/question is finished automatically after selection of the first answer. But there are stil 4 remaining correct answers.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi etlabs,
This is due to the combination of things. This behavior will only occur if:

    • Timer set to per question
    • The “last” question needs to be a “Select all that apply” type (this is what is causing the quiz to complete after selecting an answer for your only question)

Basically, if you are using the “Select All That Apply” question type then I do not recommend using question-based timer – just use the regular timer.

Not sure if this explanation of what’s happening will make sense but I’ll try!

Let’s imagine you have a quiz with two questions. The first is an “all that apply” and the second is a regular question.

How should HD Quiz decide when the first question has been fully completed and to allow the second question to now be answered? If the quiz has “immediately mark answer as correct or incorrect”, then we can move to the next question if an incorrect answer is selected – but what about the correct answers? If we don’t auto go to the next question once an answer has been made, then a user could use this to know that they have not yet selected all of the correct answers. I hope this helps explain the issue on why these particular settings conflict with each other just on a logic basis.

    WHAT I’LL DO
In the next update (sometime next week), I’ll include the text:

NOTE: Per question timer doesn’t work very well with the “Select All That Apply” question type.

under the per question option to warn users of the potential issue. I’m also open to any ideas/solution you or anyone else might have on how to make the per-question timer and select all that apply features play better together.

    Hi,

many thanks for the detailed reply!

As a plugin user it is difficult to differentiate between a bug and a “strange” system behavior which has good reasons for that.
Your proposal with the text hint is fine.

Just a quick brainstorming because you asked for ideas.
    – For the combination “select all that apply” and a timer “for each question” the best would be to have two options to proceed with the next question.
    — For sure the first one is, when the time is over.
    — And the second option is, the user has to press the finish button. That is something like, someone is saying, now I am sure with the last version of my answers, I would like to proceed.

For “select all that apply” questions I don’t see a benefit from automatic switching to the next question.

For my quizzes I will disable the timer. I am fine with that compromise solution.
