 * So what’s going on here? I installed word press. I spent days customizing it,
   adding themes, writing aritcles, and it started to slowly self destruct.
 * First, posting you tube videos quit imbedding you tube. You can clearly see on
   the same page it worked at first.
 * Next it won’t accept image any more, and gives the super helpful error message‘
   HTTP Error’.
 * Next it does not even format links I add to an article.
 * So, I now have a blog that I can not add media to, or add links – what the hell?

 * And yes, it is the latest WP, and the latest mySQL, and the latest PHP, on the
   latest Windows server. Oh, and the problem above occurred maybe a day apart each,
   so its like a multiple day self destruct sequence. I can see things failing all
   at once if something is set wrong, but this almost acts like a worsening database
   corruption error or something.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a **fresh** download
   of WordPress.

 * OK, thanks for posting that. I know how frustrating it can be to support a product
   when something else is messing it up.
 * I followed your steps.
 * Turning off the Stat tracker plugin, and links began showing up again. They started
   failing after the last update, I guess in retrospect. you should probably blacklist
   them, if possible – at least not help promote them.
 * I reloaded the directories as you suggested, but was still not able to show images
   or you tube.
 * I found these lines in my php.ini;
    upload_tmp_dir=”C:\tmp” session.save_path
   =”C:\tmp” error_log=”C:\tmp\php-errors.log” cgi.force_redirect=0 extension_dir
   =”C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext”
 * I did not put them there. They were in a spot by themselves, with no comments.
   I would have never done that. I assume some plugin or chinese/russian hacker
   has found a way in (do they have anything else to do?).
 * I commented them out then received (when trying to add media);
    500 – Internal
   server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it
   cannot be displayed.
 * the default upload path does have proper security – so whatever added those lines,
   they are indeed needed? So i uncommented them and set up a c:\tmp directory and
   set permissions. Image uploads now worked again.
 * youtube video still does not – it posts as a link only, different than described(
   and as it worked at first).
