# Server 500 errors when plugin enabled

 * Has anyone else had the issue where when the plugin is enabled clicking on any
post from the BLOG page results in a server 500 error? It goes away immediately
when I disable the plugin. I have also tried deleting the plugin and re-installing
   the plugin with no success.
 * My host suggested more PHP memory, I increased this to 128mb and it did not help.

 * Yep I’ve got exactly the same issue and it is driving me and my visitors insane–
it has only started since the last few plugin updates.
 * I raised a support case with them and they don’t seem to have a clue, I’m quite
pissed off to be honest, especially as I have paid for this plugin…

 * Andrea I’ve just updated you with the log supplied by Dreamhost.

 * [@nkohler](https://wordpress.org/support/users/nkohler/), could you ask your
host to check the error logs to see if you’re seeing similar errors? My site
is high traffic and this is really causing quite a headache.

 * Yes I have the same errors in the logs. I am going to log a support ticket with
the PRO version as soon as my client gets me the credentials to do so as I am
simply assisting them troubleshooting this issue on their site.
 * The nice thing is that at least it is a known issue being investigated. We have
moved to use a different plugin for social sharing in the mean time until the
   issue is fixed.

 * That DreamHost error confirms (for me at least) that this is a PHP memory issue.
Obviously bumping PHP memory will alleviate the pressure, but something in the
last update is running a little heavier than it used to. That it’s running on
EVERY page load is a bit surprising though. What happens if you disable facebook
   sharing for a test?

 * I tried disabling the Facebook share icon temporarily, but the Error 500 issue
still arises. I have checked with Dreamhost and they have confirmed that my PHP
limit was set to 90mb but that they have increased it to 120mb, so I will see
   how it goes now.
 * But this isn’t really a solution – are you still working on the root cause of
the excessive memory utilisation? Ultimately this shouldn’t be a particularly
   complex plugin?

 * Our development team has identified the cause of this issue and we will roll
out a fix ASAP to resolve it. We appreciate your patience!

 * [@ipstenu](https://wordpress.org/support/users/ipstenu/) I did want to mention
that, while the devs know what is happening and will be pushing an update to
resolve it, it appears to be specific to Dreamhost customers from the tickets
we’ve received so far. I run Social Warfare on 6 of my own sites and my error
   logs are clear.

 * I’m not too shocked. I bet they’re all on Shared too. Shared hosting has limits,
and even a small change to one aspect of one plugin can be the tipping point
🙁 And the fact that they’re having the problem on every page load implies that
it’s just a run-away process that hates our version of PHP.
 * Tests to try include:
 * * Disabling PARTS of Social Warfare
    * Changing PHP (DreamHost lets you change
versions and flavors in panel) * Changing themes
 * The reason I mention the PHP thing is that there have been plugins that just
don’t play well with others on specific PHP flavors. Nothing bad about it, though
   it’s very annoying 🙂

 * Yeah, we’ll just fix it and that should take care of it, but I found it interesting.
Would love to know if there is a common PHP version but we will likely just roll
with the changes either way. 🙂

 * This issue started once the last major update so if you’re to investigate start
   with your own changelog…
 * No we’re not all on shared hosting, I have a dedicated VPS with plenty of resource.
 * In addition, the increase that you suggested to the PHP memory made no difference
   at all, red herring.

 * [@sergeantash](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sergeantash/) Sorry if this
got confusing – Mika works for Dreamhost, while I work for Social Warfare. We(
Social Warfare) know what is causing the issue on our end and we will release
an update to fix it as soon as we can. However, we’ve noticed this seems to be
affecting only Dreamhost customers (is your VPS on Dreamhost?) so Mika made a
few suggestions that may be worth testing in the meantime. In any event, this
will be resolved ASAP, but for now we are just trying to figure out why the code
change we made is affecting Dreamhost sites this way and not anyone else as far
   as we know.

 * Many Dreamhost sites utilise Cloudflare as it is easy to enable, perhaps that
   could be related?

 * It’s possible, but we have a HUGE number of users with Cloudflare but not Dreamhost.
So far we haven’t received tickets about this issue from anyone who wasn’t using
Dreamhost, though that definitely doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist somewhere else.
