# Setup: “Save Changes” button not shown

 * I downloaded and installed the plugin. Activated, no problem.
 * When configuring the settings, all of the fields are visible (and initially blank)
down to setting the “Dashboard Widget or Admin Page” option.
 * Below that, it says “Can’t Select Database”, followed by several WordPress diagnostic
tips. The “Save Changes” button isn’t visible.
 * So, I can’t save any of the “Database Settings” fields.
 * This seems like kind of a chicken-and-egg problem. I can’t save the setup info
unless it can access the database, but I can’t access the database unless I’ve
   already saved the setup info.
 * I’m probably doing something wrong. This seems like the same question that “bowfins1”
asked many months ago, but that thread was closed without any info about how
   it was fixed.

 * Can you post a screen shot of the ‘diagnostic tips’, The save changes button
   should always be visible.

 * Thanks for your reply. I’d have responded earlier except I didn’t get a notification.
 * Here is a link to an image (on my Google drive – couldn’t figure out how to include
   the image directly here)
 * [Screen capture showing no “Save” button.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-sV5nOGC-6O0e3SDSq65IdE4u0-JZXQX/view?usp=sharing)
 * Note: I’m running WordPress locally for debugging – not on the live internet.

 * Note: That screen capture is with the browser scrolled all the way to the bottom
of the page – there is nothing on the page below that.

 * I’m sorry, I am unable to recreate your issue and the WordPress ‘tips’ displayed
are not part of my plugin. Where did you download the plugin from? Is it a fork
of my original which can be found here: [https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/edit-any-table/](https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/edit-any-table/).
 * Without having access to your database etc. it is almost impossible to diagnose.
Have you checked all the relevant details via a program such as phpmyadmin?
 * All I can suggest is that you completely uninstall the plugin and try again ….
   sorry.

 * I downloaded the plugin from the wordpress.org page.

 * Additional information:
The default WP table prefix in this installation has
been changed from “wp_” to “hjk_”. Would that make a difference to this plugin?

 * The table prefix shouldn’t make any difference. This is most bizarre, it’s been
a while since I wrote this but I have gone over and over my code and there is
nothing in there that would hide the save button or output the messages you are
getting. Looking at the message again I am wondering if it isn’t something to
do with the general connectivity to your database and the fact that it’s showing
on the plugin page is a red herring. Do you have any other plugins installed
that have settings pages? Is this message popping up anywhere else?

 * Yes, there are several other plugins installed. Contact Form 7, Participants
Database, Backup Buddy, and a few others.
 * All of those plugins have their own settings pages though. “Edit Any Table” is
the only plugin I have that uses the main WordPress settings menu.
 * I’m not sure if that is significant.

 * Update: I do have one other plugin that uses the WordPress “settings” menu. It
seems to be working normally (the “Limit Login Attempts” plugin).
