When sharing on facebook the image displayed is not the new featured image on my homepage, but a previously used one.
I have removed the old one from the library so it shouldn’t display surely?

Facebook caches the sharing thumbnails. You can force them to clear their cache by using their debugging tool and requesting a new scrape: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
