# Shortcode Formatting

 * Hello.
 * I was wondering when adding a shortcode to a functions.php file, does it matter
   where the add_shortcode() function is in the code?
 * Does it have to come after the function, before the function, or can it be listed
   at the top of the page?
 * I am working on improving the page readability and structure for my code.
   I did
   read through [https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/add_shortcode/](https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/add_shortcode/)
   but do not see anything on this and best practices.
