# Shortcode Not Working

 * I’ve added a shortcode block to a page template, but it’s just displaying the
   actual shortcode, not converting the shortcode into what it’s supposed to show.
   Here’s the page it’s working not on:

   I’m really not sure why it isn’t rendering.

 * That’s a WordPress.COM link, meant for sites on **_their_** platform.
 * That link doesn’t apply to self-hosted WordPress (aka WordPress.org) users because
   the open-source WordPress software doesn’t come with most of those shortcodes.
 * As you’re using a block theme (TT3), if you want to insert a list of posts in
   your sidebar, use the Query Loop block in your sidebar.

 * Will the query loop block allow me to select posts by tag? I tried the latest
   posts block and it didn’t have an option for tags.

 * That, and a few other filtering options.
 * And I’ll recommend you consult the documentation of whatever WordPress feature
   you’re using for the first time. Even 30 seconds spent scanning to know what’s
   possible will save you a ton of time and frustration.

 * I had started using the Query Loops but got frustrated with them very quickly
   because they didn’t seem to do what I wanted them to do, but I’ll give it a try
   again see if I can get them to work right this time.
