    Hi there,

I’m very new to blogging but I had been using Post Thumbnail Editor as my media cropping and adjustment tool for my posts. Since upgrading to WordPress 4.1 I have lost the ability to select the portion of a photo i wish to select to display in thumbnail and slider. The editor allows the cropping procedure to take place but the slider image remains a sort of default selected image portion rather than the portion I crop that I would like to display.

I have tried debugging mode bot inactive and active and deactivated Photon in JetPack.

I really like Post Thumbnail Editor as I haven’t found any other plugin that gives the same sort of media thumbnail functionality. Please help. Is it a compatibility issue or am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks in advance.
    Craig

    Quick thoughts:

    • Make sure that you are using version of 2.4.4+ with wordpress 4.1+.
    • It sounds like PTE actually loads to the point where you see cropping image and the thumbnail information table, but the cropping bit doesn’t actually work. Is this correct?
    • Are there any errors in the log file (you can find the link to the log file in the settings page).
    • Are there any errors in the javascript console (in chrome and firefox this should come up with ctrl+shift+j)?
    • Maybe it’s a conflict with another plugin or a theme?

Hi there, Thank you I’ll work through the above list.

Point one I have WordPress 4.1 and PTE 2.4.4

To point two yes i can crop a picture for slider or thumbnail and it seems to crop as i wish and save but doesn’t update the slider image at all, it just remains the old default slider image portion that was selected automatically before i start selecting the portion i want to display.

I’m still working on finding the log file for any error but will copy it here when i find it.

For the javascript console the following comes up with a red cross next to it. I’m using firefox.
fbstatic-a.akamaihd.net : server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555

My current theme is Simple Catch basically because it’s easy for a newbie like me to use. My plugins are:
    Akismet
    Contact form 7
    Font
    Fonts
    Hello Dolly
    Jetpack
    MOJO Marketplace
    PTE
    Tablepress
    TTFTitles
    Twitter Facebook Social Share
    Widget Logic
    WP Print
    WP Google Fonts

Many thanks for your help and time, i really do love the functionality of your plugin and the look it allows a website to have. Kudos to you.

my site is http://www.adventuresinspiceandthyme.com if that helps

Try disabling your plugins and using the stock theme (twentyfourteen). That javascript error <i>might</i> be the one that’s causing the problem so you could try to disable the twitter/facebook social share first and see if the error goes away and PTE starts working…

Thank you, I’ll try that and get back to you with any news…..

I have disbled the social share nd it seems that I have regained the cropping functionality. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few posts to make sure it’s consistently effective and working.

Can I just say a huge massive thank you for your plugin and for the help you’ve given me.
