I’ve just installed a test of Smush to see if how it works and I’m also getting this error message:
Error posting to API: cURL error 35: Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to smushpro.wpmudev.org:443
For a bit more information: On my site I’m not seeing this error for every image, because if I look in the media library I can see some images are saying that they’ve been smushed:
[Smush 10 images reduced by 21.6 KB (3.8%) Image size: 355.6 KB]
…while others are showing as “not processed”. If I click on the button to manually smush the image, I see the error message as above.
Hi @eamonlaser & @montari
We had an issue with our API today but it should be fixed now.
Could you please try to run the bulk Smush again?
Best Regards
Patrick Freitas
Thanks Patrick, I’m running a bulk Smush now and it appears to be working.
Thanks for your quick response – I wasn’t at my computer this weekend so didn’t see your answer until today. All seems to be working OK now.
Hi @eamonlaser,
Glad to hear is working fine on your side. Since we haven’t heard from you in a while, I’ll mark this thread as resolved for now. Please feel free to open a new ticket for any further assistance.
Best Regards
Nithin

I am getting the same error:
Error posting to API: cURL error 35: OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to smushpro.wpmudev.org:443
In Media Library some are showing as “not processed”. If I click on the button to manually smush the image, I see the error message as above.
Hi.
same here on smush
Error posting to API: cURL error 35: Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to smushpro.wpmudev.org:443
Hello,
Our sysadmins are currently looking into this and in most cases so far it seems that the issue is temporary only.
We’re monitoring the situation and hopefully it would be back to normal for everyone soon.
Cheers,
