 * I tried to install SSL and changed http to https in settings > general I followed
   the instructions here: [http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-ssl-and-https-in-wordpress/](http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-ssl-and-https-in-wordpress/)
 * But but my site went down.
 * I get an error message:
    ” ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH Unsupported protocol
   The client and server don’t support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite.”
 * I cannot see the site nor log in to wordpress. I was able to FTP to wp-config.
   php and add
 * ”
    define( ‘WP_SITEURL’, ‘[http://example.com/&#8217](http://example.com/&#8217););
   define( ‘WP_HOME’, ‘[http://example.com/&#8217](http://example.com/&#8217); );”
 * However, my site still doesn’t show and I’m still not able to log in.

 * Make sure that you acquire a valid SSL certificate from your hosting provider.
   If you already did, contact their support to correct whatever is wrong with the
   certificate they provided.
 * To get your site back, edit the siteurl and home values in the database back
   to the HTTP version of the URL (not HTTPS) following this guide: [https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL#Changing_the_URL_directly_in_the_database](https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL#Changing_the_URL_directly_in_the_database)(
   you’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting account’s control panel)

 * Thanks James.
 * Turns out I had to upgrade my instance to allow SSL. Hence the mismatch.
    After
   correcting that the site still was down. Obviously I had to delete the hard coded
   links in wp-config.php first. Success!
 * Leaving the question and solution up here in case it helps somebody
