Using this gallery as a shortcode within Elementor

THe gallery appears a series of stacked cards – you cannot see the thumbnails clearly and the pictures only appear if you click on the image when it then open in lightbox.
Is this the design? How can I change a setting to show each image thumbnail seperately, eg in masonry?

My theme doesn’t have a lazy load option but I found the Smushit plugin does have this and it was on by default.
Have deactivated in Smushit and the gallery is working better now.
