 * Hi there,
 * after some years of good experience, I am now getting an annoying error: the
   statistics are plan wrong. The figures shown by the Jetpack app are falling on
   a daily basis, whereas Google analytics and other tools show that they are constant
   or rising. I did not make any changes before this issue appeared. What can I
   do?
 * Regards,
    Eric

 * I’m experiencing this too, as of Tuesday Jan 19th. I’m now suddenly showing visitors
   in single digits whereas they should be a few hundred a day, as confirmed by
   Google Analytics.

 * Strange, do you have any idea how this is possible?

 * I have no idea. It’s never happened before in the several years I’ve been running
   my websites. One odd thing is that of the several websites I run, the only two
   affected are both to do with drink! Maybe they’re doing dry January.

 * For me, Jetpack is useless if it does not provide accurate stats.
    So please
   have a look…

 * Hi [@losteineu](https://wordpress.org/support/users/losteineu/), thanks for reporting
   this.
 * Can you tell me more about the size of the discrepancy you see with Google Analytics?
   Did this increase over time, or did you notice that only recently, and happening
   abruptly? I had a look at your stats and they don’t seem they have decreased
   dramatically to me.
 * Jetpack stats and Google Analytics use different methods to identify and track
   the activity on your site. You can expect Google Analytics and Jetpack stats
   to always show slight differences in totals for your visits, views, and other
   metrics.
 * Jetpack doesn’t show some actors like bots and spiders, for example, so if you
   had a spike on those, you will notice that on Google Analytics.
 * You said that you haven’t made any changes, what about plugin updates? If some
   plugins got updated, it’s possible that they are interfering with Jetpack. In
   that case, you can try temporarily deactivating the updated plugins and checking
   if the problem gets fixes that way. If it works, then reactivate each plugin
   one-by-one to find out which one is causing problems.
 * Hope that helps! Let me know what you find out and we’ll take it from there.

 * Hi Stef, thanks for your reply!
 * The discrepancy with Google is between 1:3 or 1:5. And yes, it increased over
   time, from day to day. Now its going down again, without changes from my side.
   But it’s still not at a normal level.

 * [@losteineu](https://wordpress.org/support/users/losteineu/) All statistics tracking
   plugins collect and report information differently. For example, Jetpack’s stats
   do not include the visits from logged in users, by default. Many bloggers find
   this very useful, since your own visits may artificially inflate your traffic
   counts. If you’d like to count visits from logged-in users on your site, you
   can modify that setting under Jetpack > Settings > Traffic tab > Site Stats.
   That might be one explanation for the variance between your other tracking plugin
   and Jetpack’s.
 * Jetpack also does not report visits in real-time; there is a bit of a lag between
   when visits occur, and when they are reported in your stats. Additionally, there
   are certain search engine robots and spiders that Jetpack doesn’t count, and
   referrers that are considered spam referrers by Akismet (our spam-catcher) will
   not be reported in your stats. Other tracking plugins may be less discerning
   in what they count toward the stats they report to you, and therefore give you
   greater numbers.
 * Since all plugins use different tracking methods, they will rarely, if ever,
   be perfectly synced in what they report. The benefit of using Jetpack’s stats
   is that you can see a snapshot of your blog’s activity right from your Dashboard.
   If you want to use another analytics service that gives you different features,
   you certainly can! Jetpack’s stats work great alongside Google Analytics and
   other stats tracking services. You may find it worthwhile to use tracking data
   from a variety of plugins to develop a broad picture your visitors’ behavior.
 * I do see that you’re using WP Rocket – so it’s possible it’s caching is preventing
   our stats tracking javascript from working properly? Check those settings to
   see if you can exclude our stats javascript (`https://stats.wp.com/e-202104.js`)
   and see if that has any impact.
 * Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything else.

 * [@csonnek](https://wordpress.org/support/users/csonnek/) I have been using Jetpack
   for years, and I never encountered these discrepancies. Obviously, they are erratic–
   all of a sudden, the stats are going up again, narrowing the gap with Google
   analytics.
 * And again, I did not make any changes…

 * Hi [@losteineu](https://wordpress.org/support/users/losteineu/)
 * I’m afraid we’re not seeing any issues on our end, so if stats aren’t being recorded,
   it likely either down to the differences in the way Jetpack and Google collect
   stats, as mentioned above, or something is intermittently blocking Jetpack’s
   tracking script from working as it should.
 * We can only recommend trying to exclude the script from any caching tool you’re
   using. Otherwise, you may want to rely more on the data from Google if you find
   that is giving more accurate statistics.
