I’ve been receiving many notifications of sign-ups via the form on my site, but only a fraction of these are being added to my list.

    Here’s a quick history:

Started in November–I started getting a large number of email notifications of subscribers, typically email only, no first or last name.

Emails are not being loaded into my contacts list.

I’ve been on 2 support calls, even being elevated to Tier 2.

-I have the Bypass checkbox checked
-I do not have the Opt-in enabled
-I do not have a captcha

Everytime a real person tests it, their name does get added, but I continue to receive notifications that are not being added.

So, are these spam, or real submissions? If if they are spam, why I am receiving a notification email.

    Hi @pluckvermont

It’s very possible that it’s a case of spam submitting to the form but not getting all the way through to the API.

The two end results are not tied together. The email notification is handled by WordPress and their “wp_mail()” function and will send the notification out as perhaps expected. However, the API is handled by constantcontact.com and our engineers there. That is going to have its own detection for possible spam and handle on their own.

Do you have Akismet installed and active at all? We have integration there to help try to combat submissions. If not, are you willing to try it out, or perhaps set up some Google reCAPTCHA keys to go along with the form(s)? We have support for both version 2, the “I am human” check, as well as version 3 which is more behind the scenes, and doesn’t prompt the user for anything extra. Hoping that either of those would reduce the amount of potential false entries being sent in.

Lastly, just in case, have you received any admin notices saying that “an error has occurred that you may want to get checked” ? Curious if possibly the API is returning some information that would be useful, and thus getting logged to a debug file.
