WordPress Import & Export Improvement

Hi,

This post is suggestion for feature improvement but this post is BUG also for users who re-installing wordpress.

maybe I am posting it 2nd time. But I have some suggestion for Import & Export that will help better everyone for Import & Export

Current Import Feature:-

If you want to move your site to another server or if you want fresh installation, Then first you will have to export file from Export tool.

Once you have exported your files for Everything (Post, Page, Media, etc.) now when you import it, It will import everything.

In importing, Your post will be imported easily, but here we need to see import of media files:-

Media Import Process If you are moving to another server:-

Images will be downloaded from Old server and upload it to the new server. But I do not think, you will have access to both server at once, So media import will be failed.

Media Import Process If you re Installing wordpress:-

In re-installation, Media files will be uploaded easily, but if you see it in your Server File Manager, you will find old files available and fine.. But in media import. Those media downloaded for the same server and uploaded with the new name.

It’s mean.. if you import media in re-installation, the same file will be uploaded but that in the backend, there are already files are available so, your file will be imported with a new name. If your old media file name is “My-New-Media” then, your new Media File name will be “My-New-Media-1”.

This process increases unlimited files in the backend, and it also effects on Media SEO as all media links will change.

If you do “UnCheck” Media Import then everything works fine, But Images files are not getting visible in media manager.

Benefit of current Import & Export

Current Import And Export feature is very good if you were moving to another Domain or changing domain. Because there are nothing to conflict, and everything is fresh. And old media files are available in another place.

But if you want to use Current Import & Export on Re-Installation then you will not able to do it successfully.

Suggestion For Import & Export

It will be awesome if we get below features When “Media files (Wp Content) already available on the server.”

If we “Uncheck” Import Media function while importing post, Available Media on the server should automatically get connected with WordPress, and we can find those media in WP Media Manager.

While exporting media, There if your provide option like

Link To Media ( Do not export media, but link available media with WordPress post and WordPress media manager. ( It works fine when we click on uncheck button on media import while importing But only problem is, Those media are visible in post but not visible in WordPress media manager.

Another few improvement can be (just suggestion, Not error or issue)

While exporting, we can select Custom Fields, That we can export with posts.
