# switching WordPress site from http to https

 * A few days ago we asked our host to add an SSL certificate to our hosting account
   and to make our site https instead of http.
 * Here’s the site: [justworldinternational.org](https://www.justworldinternational.org/)
 * Our host ordered and installed the SSL certificate.
 * They did not move the site, since they said it “is already on a server capable
   of handling SSL certs with virtual hosts.”
 * They said, “you’ll want to have your web designer(s) change links as appropriate
   from http to https.”
 * I tried to do this by going to Settings/General and changing the settings for:
   1) WordPress Address (URL) and, 2) Site Address (URL).
 * When I did, I got an error message. “This is disabled.”
 * What am I missing here?

 * If you have the site URLs coded in wp-config.php, you can’t change them from 
   SETTINGS->GENERAL. So check wp-config.php and, if necessary, change them there.
   Then use a plugin like “better search and replace” to find and replace all links
   in your db [http://mydomain](http://mydomain) to [https://mydomain](https://mydomain)

 * I checked wp-config.php and nothing jumped out there.

 * no plugins are necessary to switch a site from http to https.

 * I didn’t say it is necessary. It will help configuration though. Siteground recommended
   it.
