Target Product(s) / Variable Products bug

When adding a Target Product(s) Rule and specifying a “Product Category not equal to ___”, product fields are duplicated on variable products.

In my specific example, I have the following Rule specified:
Product Category is not equal to Item

Any variable product with variations defined that are not in the category “Item” have all defined Product Fields duplicated.
