# Template modifications – How?

 * I know there are instructions for doing overrides or making your own templates

 * But the editing is not as simple as it looks (unless I am missing something simple
   🙂 ). For example the Registration page (as a simple example). It has the hooks
   but not the content to edit. Let do something really simple like modifying the
   way the submit and cancel buttons are displayed, layout wise. I know we can do
   most things with CSS etc, but lets just consider this as a ‘basic example’ to
   be able to edit other templates as well.
 * The content to make those specific edits is not located in the templates/register.
   php file to allow editing.
 * The content/layout for this simple example in the registration form is located
   in the includes/core/um_actions_register.php
 * Is it possible to override those files? Or how does someone do this change in
   the editable template file?

 * I was thinking about the same matter a couple of months ago.
    I did some search,
   but didn’t come up with anything useful, only CSS modification.
 * I would love to know if we are able to actually edit the forms.

 * Would like to hear what the UM developers say about this.
 * Why does the content in the that would be beneficial to edit unable to be?
 * As per my first post how does one add fields or other content in the member profile
   page in certain locations?

 * OK after some extensive testing it would seem I need to ‘recreate’ the profile
   content page (and others) myself using the shortcodes etc to display fields the
   way I want them individually with html, php, css etc.
 * Not an easy thing to do … but I will give it a shot.
 * It would be far better for all if there was an ability to edit existing content
   that is in the core files rather than the template files, as in a kind of merge.

 * I can mark this as resolved as I have simply recreated the profile and other 
   required pages by pulling what I need from the core files into my template and
   doing away with elements not needed.
 * Having said all of that, why are layout, styles and content placed in the core
   files and not in the template files they are for? It would make for far easier
   template management.
