 * I currently have a website through Kentaco but am looking to re-vamp with WordPress.
   Would it be possible to download WordPress without a host or domain and play
   around with some things without making the site live? I want to make sure this
   is the best fit.
 * Also, Would it be possible to transfer information from our current website to
   WordPress so that I don’t have to start from scratch?
 * Thank you!

 * If you are using PC/Windows… you can use XAMPP to create a local server. Here
   is a link with instructions:

 * As far as importing content not created with WordPress; it might get a little
   tricky. Are you using a database with your current website?

 * Hi Josh. so I downloaded Xampp and went through all of the steps. when I tried
   to finish setting up the WordPress process by going to [http://localhost/wp/](http://localhost/wp/)
   I kept getting the error 404. I read a few forums of some people that have had
   the same issue but could not figure it out. I’m stuck!
 * and yes, we are using a database on our current website? So how could that work?

 * Did you also used “wp” as your installation name? If you used another name you
   should try [http://localhost/your-name/](http://localhost/your-name/)
    If you
   type just [http://localhost/](http://localhost/) what do you get?

 * yes I used wp.
    if I just type [http://localhost](http://localhost) it takes
   me to the XAMMP welcome page.
